Lifetime Email Alias Service to be Retired in June 2025

Change to Lifetime Email

Previously, OSU alums had the option to setup a forwarding address ending with lifetime.oregonstate.edu.

As of October 2023, it is no longer possible to create a new OSU Lifetime email alias.

Effective June 30, 2025, all Lifetime email addresses will be retired. 

What is the reason for this change?

The decision to stop offering lifetime emails was based on two primary factors:

1. Technology best practices and email security standards
2. A decrease in overall usage of Lifetime aliases by our alumni community

What do I need to do?

If you have a Lifetime alias, please take the following steps before your email address is retired:

1. Choose an email address to use as a replacement for your lifetime.oregonstate.edu address.
2. Review the places your @lifetime.oregonstate.edu email address is being used, such as social media, video streaming, and banking accounts, and update it with your chosen email address. 
3. Inform others of your new preferred email address. 
4. Depending on your email provider, you may be able to set up an auto-reply to notify senders not to use your lifetime.oregonstate.edu address.

1. Question: I need to change the target address for my Lifetime alias but the form is gone. How do I update that?
   Answer: Please contact the Service Desk.
2. Question: How do I know if I am receiving email sent to my Lifetime alias?
   Answer: Depending on your email provider, you may be able to set up a filter that will sort or mark messages sent to your Lifetime address. Then you can notify those senders to update their contact information for you.
3. Question: I used my Lifetime alias with an outside account. How can I fix this?
   Answer: Please contact the provider of the outside account and update your email address with them. The exact process will vary from one service provider to another.
4. Question: I have an earlier Lifetime alias that ends with @orst.edu. Or those addresses going away, too?
   Answer: Yes, all of the Lifetime aliases will be retired in June 2025.
